CONCEPT: define and validate an innovative methodology that facilitates the adoption of metal 3D printing technology through Binder Jetting (BJ) in Italy, in the automation and fashion sectors.
The development of an artificial intelligence algorithm – to support the scouting of geometries suitable for BJ technology and to support design, together with the development of a new metal powder obtained by recycling production waste – will allow users of BJ technology to create metal components.
APPROACH: circular manufacturing and reduced environmental impact.
CONTEXT: Binder Jetting (BJ) is a new 3D printing technology that allows to create complex and customized objects starting from metal powders, using a liquid binder to join them layer by layer, and then sintering the printed parts. Its advantages include production flexibility, sustainability (reduction of waste and circular economy) and localization (decrease in dependence on imports).
However, there are still many challenges to overcome the technical, quality and cost limitations. It is therefore necessary to invest in process optimization and digitalization.
Italy, with its strong industrial tradition, has a unique opportunity to become a leader in this sector. BJ can revolutionize the production of stainless steel components, making our country more competitive globally.
OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS: this Project aims to revolutionize the production of metal components in the automation and luxury sectors through the use of Binder Jetting.
